A Carpenter at the Top of his Game

We cannot express how proud we are of our Carpenter Simon.  His hard work and dedication to his trade is unquestionable that’s for sure.  Not only has he been beavering away on Ongl projects; he’s also been training with SquadUK for WorldSkills São Paulo 2015, or as we like to call it – The Trades’ answer to the Olympics!

As one of three British Carpenters to have been selected for the squad – joining other skilled individuals from a variety of vocational disciplines including Stonemasonry, Hairdressing, Automobile Technology, CNC Turning and Welding- last week saw the three of them go head to head for the single Carpentry spot in TeamUK.

Our heart-felt congratulations goes to Owain Jones, who pipped our Simon and Northern Irelands’ Mark Hawthorne to the post, securing his place as UK’s representative for Carpentry at the WorldSkills São Paulo this August!

Credit to Simon’s commitment to his craft and evident sportsmanship, we were absolutely delighted to hear of his nomination for a Vocational Qualification (VQ) Award, for which he has since been selected as one of 9 Finalists.  The winner of VQ Award Wales 2015 will be revealed at an awards ceremony in Cardiff on June 9, the eve of VQ Day.  You’ll find us in the audience cheering and whooping for our boy Simon…..
